ABN
AMRO ACADEMY (Singapore)
Lim Fang Chien
Vice President
On 7th March 2001, I approached Paula Marcondes to run the first ABN AMRO Country
Management Committee’s offsite. She surprised me by boldly taking up the challenge
despite having only ONE week to prepare for the offsite, which was to be held
on 14th March. Many other consultants I had approached declined the project giving
a host of reasons.
The mere mention of the term “senior management” would
send shivers down many a consultant’s spine. Paula is different. She treated
the project as an opportunity to venture into territory others would willingly
avoid. Given the extremely tight deadline, speed was critical, especially the
need to get pre-event information from the attendees. The fact that most of them
were out-station adds to the frustration. Yet, Paula demonstrated excellent values
of professionalism, respect, determination and commitment as she painstakingly
worked with the Academy to ensure things fell in place. Despite the “mad
rush”, Paula maintained her integrity throughout the project and brought
much meaning to the term “partnership”.
I have received wonderful feedback from attendees who made comments about the
effectiveness of her session, especially on the motivational side. Almost all
the attendees walked away from the offsite with a better understanding of themselves,
their colleagues as well as the business issues surrounding them. Paula is truly
among the very best facilitators that I have met and used. The quality of her
workshop can be described as “top-notch”. The clearest proof of this
is the bank’s intention to continue using her services moving forward.
In the senior management offsite there’s usually only ONE chance to do it right.
For
ABN AMRO, Paula made best use of the ONE chance. She did it right. So did we. |
